DustMagic is a desktop app for Windows and Mac that detects and removes dust & fibres from scanned film. Originals are never modified — cleaned files go to a separate folder.
System Requirements
- Windows 10+ or macOS 10.15+ (Intel or Apple Silicon)
- 8 GB RAM (16 GB recommended)
- Disk space ~ double the size of the image library you want to process
- No GPU required — DustMagic runs entirely on the CPU
What DustMagic Is For
- Automatically removing, or significantly reducing, the appearance of dust on large batches of scanned negatives and positive film. There is also a custom brush for manually augmenting the dust detection mask where needed.
Step 1: Download
Visit dustmagic.io and click Download. Choose your version, Windows or Mac. The free trial version is here too.
Step 2: Install
Windows: Run DustMagicSetup.exe from Downloads, follow the prompts, click Finish.
Mac: Open DustMagic.dmg and drag the app to Applications.
Step 3: First Launch
On first launch DustMagic opens in trial mode. The trial is the full app — batch processing included, unlimited images — with a watermark on all output. Your options:
- Keep using the trial — unlimited processing, watermarked output.
- Activate a licence — removes the watermark. $49/year.
