Three principles: tune cheap, batch big, verify smart.<\/p>\n<h2>Tune Cheap<\/h2>\n<p>Detection re-runs on every image as you arrow through. On a 100-megapixel scan that adds up. Use Detection Resolution to keep tuning fast.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lower the <strong>Detection Resolution<\/strong> slider while you&#8217;re tuning settings on representative images. To get the most out of this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Group scans into folders by <em>profile<\/em> \u2014 same film stock, same era, same scanner. One profile per folder.<\/li>\n<li>Process each folder in turn rather than mixing film types in one folder.<\/li>\n<li>Run overnight or during work hours when the machine is otherwise free.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Verify Smart<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Sample, don&#8217;t open every file.<\/strong> Spot-check 5\u201310 random files from each batch \u2014 start, middle, end.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Use Mask Only (key <kbd>3<\/kbd>).<\/strong> Faster than scrolling through cleaned images. False positives appear as repeating patterns across frames; clusters along edges suggest film holder marks rather than dust.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Check the <code>_masks\/<\/code> folder.<\/strong> If you spot a problem image, the mask is right there.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Triage with Exclude\/Include<\/h2>\n<p>If a batch contains a few problem images, you don&#8217;t have to fix them all up front:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Press <kbd>X<\/kbd> on the current image to exclude it from Process Batch (red cross appears on the filmstrip).<\/li>\n<li>Press <kbd>S<\/kbd> to include it again.<\/li>\n<li>Right-click any filmstrip thumbnail to toggle exclusion.<\/li>\n<li>Process the clean run, then come back to the excluded images and brush-edit them individually with <strong>Export This Image<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Folder Structure for Large Archives<\/h2>\n<p>A workable layout for a 1000+ image archive:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><code>Archive\/Roll-001-Kodachrome\/<\/code> \u2014 original scans<\/li>\n<li><code>Archive\/Roll-001-Kodachrome\/cleaned\/<\/code> \u2014 DustMagic output<\/li>\n<li><code>Archive\/Roll-001-Kodachrome\/_masks\/<\/code> \u2014 verification masks<\/li>\n<li>One DustMagic profile per film stock or scanner setup, saved with a descriptive name.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Hardware Notes<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>DustMagic is CPU-bound.
